Most sleep routines are a loose collection of habits from various sources, a bit of magnesium, a bit of blue light avoidance, without any real structure behind them. A routine built directly from research looks different because it treats morning and night as two separate biological tasks rather than a vague category called sleep hygiene.

Morning: refueling for the entire day

The first mistake in most sleep advice is that it starts in the evening. The truth is, the quality of your sleep today is determined the moment you wake up. Morning light within the first hour of waking anchors the circadian clock for the next 24 hours, setting the timing of melatonin release approximately fourteen to sixteen hours later. This is the first non-negotiable step, before coffee, before anything else.
